The Reverse Hammer is a tool added by Ex Nihilo in v1.4. They are used to smash blocks into other blocks/items.

Reverse hammers play an important role in Skyblock-type maps, as with pure Ex Nihilo they are the only way to get Gravel or Dust. Also they are capable of multiplying some ores.

Reverse hammers are enchantable, the enchantments you get are different than to a pickaxe

Obtaining[]

Crafting[]

Reverse hammers can be crafted from Wood, Stone, Iron, Gold or Diamond

Usage[]

Hammering[]

Reverse hammers can be used to smash blocks into larger "pieces". Dust materials will for example turn into the coarser category of dust.

Also, Broken Ores can be smashed up, where the larger type of ore item will come out. Each progressive step the ores have a small chance to produce slightly more of the material.

Reverse hammers are commonly used to undo any mistakes caused from using a hammer.

To use a reverse hammer simply break a block using it, just as using a pickaxe. The smashed items/blocks will drop out when the block is destroyed.

A list of known blocks being smashed by the reverse hammer, as well as their outcomes, can be found here:

Block Result
Sand Gravel
Dust Sand
Sand Sandstone
Cobblestone Stone
Gravel Cobblestone
Cracked Stone Bricks Stone Bricks
Broken Ores Ore Blocks

Trivia[]

  • The reverse hammer acts completely oppositely as the hammer.
